Designed to Give Impact Business Model Statement
- Purpose
The Cru adopts the Designed to Give Impact Business Model to embed generosity and social impact into its core operations. This model reflects a deliberate commitment to donate a significant portion of the company’s revenue and profit to social and environmental causes through financial contributions and in-kind services.
- Scope of Giving
The Cru’s giving model includes:
- Financial Donations: Monetary contributions to registered charities and mission-aligned organisations.
- In-Kind Support: Discounted or pro bono professional services (PR, communications, brand strategy, etc.). Eligible in-kind contributions include discounted professional services only when the discount exceeds 50 percent of the equivalent market value.
- Key Recipients
The Cru supports a range of nonprofit and community-focused organisations through these activities. Past and current recipients include:
- Two Good
- Reground
- National Indigenous Culinary Institute
- IndigiEarth
- FoodLab Sydney
- Sustainable Restaurants Association
Engagements with these organisations have included financial donations, lo bono retainers, and pro bono project support.
- Quantified Giving (FY23–FY25)
Over the last three financial years, The Cru has donated a significant proportion of both revenue and profit. The totals include both financial and in-kind contributions, with time-based services valued at a fair market hourly rate.
- Valuation Methodology
Where discounted retainers are provided (lo bono), the differential is recognised as a donation. All contributions are tracked in internal impact reporting.
- Commitment & Oversight
The Cru is committed to donating the equivalent of 5 percent of annual revenues or more to charitable partners and mission-aligned organisations each financial year. This commitment includes both direct financial contributions and in-kind professional services.
For the purposes of this commitment: Eligible in-kind contributions include low bono professional services only where the discounted retainer represents a reduction of more than 50 percent of the standard market rate (meaning the organisation pays less than 50 percent of our standard fee).
- Transparency & Annual Review
Where discounted retainers are provided, only those discounted at 50 percent or more are counted toward our annual Designed to Give contribution under the B Corp Impact Business Model requirements.
